Plain-language terms for using Kharcha. Read the Privacy Policy alongside this for how your data is handled.
By downloading, installing or using Kharcha, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, the only request we'd make is that you don't use the app.
Kharcha reads incoming and existing SMS messages on your device to identify bank, card and UPI transactions, then presents them as a categorized spending record inside the app. It runs entirely on your device and does not depend on an internet connection or any server we operate.
Kharcha is proprietary software. The app is free to download and use, with no subscription or in-app purchase of any kind, but its source code is not published and no license to copy, modify, reverse engineer or redistribute it is granted.
Kharcha is free to use and supported by ads served through a third-party advertising service. See the Privacy Policy and Data Safety page for what that service collects. Ad content is selected and served by that third party, isn't reviewed or endorsed by the developer, and the developer isn't responsible for the content, products or services advertised.
Kharcha parses SMS text using pattern matching built against known bank sender formats. It's built carefully, amounts are parsed exactly rather than approximated, and ambiguous messages are routed to a review queue rather than guessed, but no parser is immune to a bank changing its SMS format or sending something unusual.
You're responsible for checking the figures Kharcha shows against your bank's own statements before relying on them for anything important, such as filing taxes, budgeting against a hard limit, or reconciling an account.
Kharcha categorizes and totals transactions you've already made. It does not provide financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and nothing in the app should be read as a recommendation about what to do with your money.
Kharcha is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Use of the app is at your own discretion and risk.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer of Kharcha is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app, including any financial decision made based on the information it displays.
Kharcha is actively developed and its features, parsing behavior and these terms may change between releases. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the terms as they stand at that time. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
You may stop using Kharcha at any time by uninstalling it. Since all data is stored locally, uninstalling the app removes your data along with it.
These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict of law principles, given the app's focus on Indian banks and payment systems.
Questions about these terms can be sent directly by email.
